PJ searches Loulé as part of the national operation «Frente e Verso»

Possible crimes of fraud in obtaining subsidy are being investigated

Loulé was one of the cities in the country where house searches and accounting offices and commercial companies were carried out, within the scope of the «Frente e Verso» operation, under which the Judiciary Police is investigating potential crimes of fraud in obtaining subsidy.

In question are "nineteen projects, approved within the framework of the Operational Program of the Autonomous Region of Madeira 2014-2020 (EMPREENDER 2020), financed by the European Fund for Regional Development (ERDF) and executed between the years 2016 and 2018, relating to companies based on the mainland and in the Autonomous Region of Madeira».

Within the scope of these projects, expenditure documents for a total amount of almost 6 million euros were submitted for co-financing, with the authorities «suspecting the misappropriation of funds, with an impact on the financial interests of the European Union, on the global amount of incentives, effectively paid, of 3.069.300,00 euros».

The operation, which involved the Directorate of the South and the Criminal Investigation Departments of Portimão, consisted of the execution of 40 search and seizure warrants, of which 20 were at home and 20 at home, carried out in Lisbon, Loulé, Funchal and Póvoa de Varzim.

Investigators and experts from the Judiciary Police, Magistrates of the Public Prosecutor's Office of the DCIAP and elements of the Núcleo de Assessoria Técnica (NAT) of the PGR took part in the «Frente e Verso» operation.
