Lagoa remembers Carlos Boto in a ceremony with family and friends

The ceremony marked the placement of two totems at the ends of the Circuit

Carlos Boto returned, last Saturday, to be remembered by Lagoa and the Lagoenses, in a ceremony held next to the Maintenance and Racing Circuit, which brought together family and friends.

The ceremony marked the placement of two totems at the ends of the Maintenance and Racing Circuit, which was named after Carlos Boto in 2017, at the time of its inauguration.

This was an initiative of the Municipality of Lagoa and the Union of Parishes of Lagoa and Carvoeiro to which some communities and citizens of the municipality joined.

According to the municipality, the initiative's main objective was to highlight, once again, «the extraordinary contribution that Carlos Boto made to the Lagoense community, as a citizen dedicated to the public cause, associations and young people, being one of the great drivers, if not the biggest, of sport in the municipality of Lagoa».

The second objective was born from the desire to give «greater dignity to the circuit», with a stronger presence of Carlos Boto.

«Lagoa will never forget those who contributed so much to the history and to the municipality we have today, particularly at a sporting level. Carlos Boto marked several generations of young people and was greatly missed, in addition to a great legacy. We chose this date, very close to the 50th anniversary of April 25th, because Carlos was a citizen who always defended democracy and the values of freedom», stated Luís Encarnação, president of the municipality.
