Christians, from kings and nobles to artisans and commoners, but also the Moors who brought exotic products to Portuguese lands, will once again take Castro Marim back to the Medieval Days, between the 24th and 28th of August, in an edition of the event in which the aspects of historical recreation, but also environmental, will be reinforced.

After a two-year break, the event is back with a vengeance, with a five-day duration and the various elements that the public has become accustomed to in more than two dozen previous editions.

But there are also news, from the outset a greater focus on safety and the environmental aspect, but also at the level of the venue itself, the effort to recreate and even the professional groups that help Castro Marim to return to medieval times for a few days.

«One of the big news are two international groups, which will replace others that were before. Another is that we are going to have a larger Arab camp on the slopes of the Forte de S. Sebastião, to show what would be the transition from Arab to medieval culture», according to Filomena Sintra, vice-president of the Castro Marim Chamber and councilor. responsible for the Culture department.

The Arab Camp of Sheikh F'Al Káyd will show the daily life of an Arab caravan of trade in salt and spices passing through Castro Marim.

In the Forte de S. Sebastião itself, another historical recreation will take place, in this case, the day-to-day life of a military and civil garrison from the XNUMXth century.

From the 25th to the 28th of August, from 16:00, it will be possible to attend the recreation, but also the thematic exhibitions “Stable – Lusitano Horse”, “Taverna – Os Soldados do Terço – A Garrison”, “Taracena – Dos piques à powder” and “Celaria – The Ordinances”.

On the same days, the public heading to this fortress will also have the opportunity to watch fencing and horseback riding demonstrations (18:00 pm).

Even so, the main action takes place in the castle, where there is a strong focus on the historical recreation component.

«We believe that the rigor and authenticity of the Castle continues to make a difference in the recreations that are made in Portugal», says Filomena Sintra.

During the days of the event, the Castro Marim castle takes on a new lease of life, with stalls showing some of the arts and crafts of the medieval period, from muleteers to shearers, through coopers, blacksmiths, cabinetmakers, bricklayers, potters, basket-makers and a lot more.

This is also where the medieval jousts and tournaments take place, guaranteed by professional entertainment groups, as well as another element that sets this event apart: the banquets.

«We will keep the medieval banquets, with the same rigor as always. In 2019, we introduced the initiative “Seja Rei por um Dia”, to recreate what would be the royal table, which was a success and is already on sale», revealed the vice-president of the municipality.

The Chamber also reinforced the entertainment component for children, which will take the form of a camp for little ones, workshops, games, carousels and storytellers, which can be visited from 20:00 pm, on the 24th, and from 18:00 pm. , in the other four days of the event, in the village, next to the Igreja Matriz, and in the Castle, next to the medieval shop.

«We also bet on further affirming the eco-event aspect. The paper for the printed materials is all recycled, the crowns start to take half of the paper and all the adhering establishments start using cardboard cups. We are talking about thousands of plastic cups that will be eliminated», revealed the vice president.

Another big bet was «in the area of security. At the same time, we hired the GNR, the fire department and the Red Cross. We even have three defibrillators in the room”.

“We also reduced the occupancy density of some areas. It may seem that there is less affluence, but this is due to the fact that we have dispersed more sellers, which will be in equal numbers. After all, the pandemic is not over yet”, concluded Filomena Sintra.
