April 25: Marcelo decorated lawyers for political prisoners and ANAFRE

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, the President of the Republic Marcelo Rebelo de Sousa decorated lawyers defending political prisoners and the National Association of Parishes (ANAFRE), with the Order of Freedom.

These decorations were published on the official website of the Presidency of the Republic on the Internet, in two separate notes, dated April 25, accompanied by photographs.

«On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of April 25, 1974, the President of the Republic decorated lawyers defending political prisoners with the Order of Freedom», reads one of the notes.

In this ceremony, held at the Belém Palace, Manuel Luís Macaísta Malheiros was awarded the insignia of grand officer of the Order of Liberty.

They received the degree of Commander of the Order of Freedom Amadeu António Pereira Lopes Sabino, António José Maldonado Cortes Simões, Joaquim Monteiro Matias, Jorge Ítalo Assis dos Santos, José Adalberto Coelho Alves, José Delgado Domingues Martins, José Paiva Biscaia Filipe Pereira and Saúl Fernandes Rodrigues Nunes.

The Minister of Justice, Rita Júdice, and the president of the Bar Association, Fernanda de Almeida Pinheiro, were present.

«The President of the Republic decorated Anafre – Associação Nacional de Freguesias, as an honorary member of the Order of Freedom, in a ceremony in the former Royal Riding Hall of the Palace of Belém», reads another note.

The badges were handed over to ANAFRE president Jorge Veloso, in the presence of the members of the board of directors, the general council and the supervisory board, as well as representatives of the Association's district and regional delegations.

The Deputy Minister and Territorial Cohesion Manuel Castro Almeida was present.
