Trips taken by residents abroad grew 21,5% in 2023, to 3,2 million, reaching a historic high in the year in which total resident trips reached 23,7 million (+4,6%), announced today the INE.
According to data from the National Statistics Institute (INE), on tourist demand from residents in Portugal, Spain (41,6%; +3,2 percentage points), France (10,1%, -0,7 points) and Italy (6,9%, +0,2 points) remained the main destination country for residents traveling abroad.
In 2023, domestic travel increased by 2,4% and free private accommodation increased in importance, remaining the main means of accommodation used (61,3%, +0,2 percentage points compared to 2022).
