Portimão international tournament whets appetite for Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup

The 29th edition of the Portimão International Tournament has the participation of 70 junior and 31 senior gymnasts

The International Rhythmic Gymnastics Tournament in Portimão starts this Tuesday, 24th of May, before the World Cup in the sport. 

This tournament «is of great importance for junior gymnasts, as it is one of the few existing competitions for the age group and because it precedes the European Rhythmic Gymnastics Championships, which takes place from 13 to 20 June, in Israel», says the Chamber. from Portimão.

The 29th edition of the Portimão International Tournament has the participation of 70 junior and 31 senior gymnasts, representing 19 countries, including Israel, Bulgaria, USA, Romania, Germany and Hungary.

«The presence of Hungarian gymnast Fanni Pigniczki is eagerly awaited, having been present at the Olympic Games in Tokyo. The Olympic champion Linoy Ashram also stands out from the lot of participants, not as a gymnast, since she ended her career recently, but as a coach of the Israel team », explains the Portimonense municipality.

The Portuguese delegation has Lara Silva, Elisabete Seletcaia, Beatriz Veraeghe, Madalena Lages, Matilde Castro and Sofia Amorim at the senior level, and Carolina Freitas, Maria Leonor Baptista, Oleksandra Huzak, Sofia Banakh, Anamar Couto, Joana Ferreira, Mafalda Santos, Bruna Tavares and Carlota Araújo at the junior level, with the vast majority taking their first steps in the main international competitions.

The tests started at 8:40 am with the junior gymnasts and lasted until 17:35 pm. Starting at 18:00, it will be the senior athletes on the scene, ending the first day of competitions at 21:30.

Tomorrow, the 25th of May, the day begins with the show of clubs and ribbons, with the senior gymnasts entering competition at 10:00 am and until 13:40 pm, followed by the protocol ceremonies.

At 15:00, the finals begin, where it is expected a close competition with high levels of difficulty and beauty, with the junior tier giving evidence with bow and the senior tier with maces.

The closing of the competition is scheduled for 19:05, with the protocol ceremonies for the awarding of prizes.

This international tournament thus whets the appetite for the long-awaited moment, where the world's elites in the discipline will shine – the Rhythmic Gymnastics World Cup, which will take place between the 27th and 29th of May at the Portimão Arena.
