SEF reinforces device at airports between May and October

In order to face the foreseeable exponential increase in the arrival of passengers during the IATA summer period

The Aliens and Borders Service (SEF) announced that it will "strengthen, with its own means, its device at national airports", having requested the support of the PSP to increase, between the 23rd of May and the 31st of October, the capacity to border control.

The SEF adds that this request “aims to face the foreseeable exponential increase in the arrival of passengers during the IATA summer period, which coincides with the 2nd United Nations Ocean Conference in Portugal”.

The SEF considers it “essential to reinforce” its capacity to “control the European Union’s external borders, guaranteeing the security of the Schengen Area and promoting the desired fluidity in the processing of passengers entering and leaving the country through air borders”.

The operational support of the PSP to the SEF will be provided “by qualified agents with training given by trainers of this Security Service, within the framework of the ongoing restructuring process”.

These agents, accompanied by SEF inspectors, «will perform previously defined support functions in the so-called "first line" under the direct operational control of the SEF, seeking to ensure that border control - which includes the many tourists visiting Portugal - takes place in a safe, peaceful and efficient way", adds the Foreigners and Borders Service.
