Algarve Operational Program gathered monitoring committee

The Monitoring Committee for the Algarve Regional Operational Program – CRESC ALGARVE 2020, which manages the European Funds allocated to the Region, met last week at the premises of the Algarve Regional Coordination and Development Commission (CCDR), in Faro.

The ALGARVE 2020 Monitoring Committee, which comprises more than 60 entities, is the body that ensures the effectiveness and quality of the implementation of the Algarve Operational Program, being responsible for analyzing and approving the annual execution reports, analyzing the progress made in the pursuit of the Program's objectives and identify the problems that affect its performance, as well as the evaluation plan and communication strategy.

According to CDDR Algarve, «the work agenda included the consideration and approval of the 2021 Annual Execution Report, the status of the Algarve 2020 progress, the preparation for its closure and the Evaluation Plan, having also been Other information of interest to the members of the Commission was transmitted, either by the Algarve 2020 Management Authority, or by the representatives of the European Commission present at the meeting, namely in relation to the next financial framework».

At issue is the Algarve Operational Program 2014-2020, which has an allocation of 318 million euros in European Funds, of which 231 million from the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) and 87 million from the European Social Fund (ESF) and should be fully implemented by mid-2023, the CCDR also mentions.

In the Algarve, management is responsible for a Steering Committee chaired by the President of CCDR Algarve, which includes the President of the Algarve Intermunicipal Community (AMAL), representing the Municipalities, and a representative of the Government, supported by a technical structure at CCDR Algarve.

According to the Commission, until 30 April, Algarve 2020 had approved 1 applications with an approved eligible investment of €568 million and paid €614 million of European funds to the beneficiaries.

This time, the Steering Committee and representatives of the European Commission visited, during the morning, two projects supported by European Funds: the “Support Center for Independent Living”, promoted by the delegation of Faro of the Portuguese Association of Cerebral Palsy, and the installations on the Campus of Penha of the “Pólo Tecnológico do Algarve”, promoted by the University of Algarve (UAlg), co-financed by the ESF and FEDER, respectively.
