Itinerant project by Casa do Povo de Messines helps adults with mental health problems

The project has a «multidisciplinary team, consisting of an occupational therapist, a Social Education technician and a psychologist»

Casa do Povo de São Bartolomeu de Messines has an itinerant psychosocial rehabilitation project, called “Mental Drive”, which goes to eight parishes in the municipality of Silves to help adults with mental health problems.

The project has a «multidisciplinary team, consisting of an occupational therapist, a Social Education technician and a psychologist who seeks to respond to each situation, according to the needs of each user and their family or caregivers», explains Casa do Povo de Messines.

The idea is to help residents in the municipality of Silves, with mental problems, aged 18 or over.

According to the project coordinator, Márcia Pais, in addition to providing proximity service to each user in each parish council, the Mental Drive «has the mission of sharing knowledge and raising awareness on the subject of mental health as well as helping with professional reintegration and /or formative'.

In practice, this team weekly supports its users in the search for rehabilitative resources and social support in the region, as well as in bureaucratic processes, «in addition to evaluating and referring those who seek us to social, training or occupational programs or activities».
