Between walks, there are conversations with digital nomads (and not only) at the Ameixial Festival

Ameixial Hiking Festival runs until Monday, April 25

The future arrives today, Saturday, April 23, at Ameixial, where it has been taking place since Thursday another hiking festival. This afternoon, at 17 pm, there will be a reflection on the theme “Digital Nomads in Interior Regions”, in a chat online to be broadcast from the Sports Pavilion of this mountain village in the municipality of Loulé.

This debate takes place within the scope of the new section “Conversations with…”, launched this year by the organizers of the Walking Festival do Ameixial.

Fábio Jesuíno, mentor of the Rural Digital Nomads platform, and Diogo Reffóios Cunha, founder of the Nómada Digital platform, will be chatting with Raquel Ponte, innovation project manager and Geek Girls ambassador – Faro, to make this new generation of remote workers known and also point out new paths for the future of the regions in the interior of Portugal.

«The new nomads of the modern era, work and travel anywhere in the world, just with a laptop on their back. They are called digital nomads for their traveling spirit and for always working online. The Algarve is already one of the most sought after regions in Europe by these remote workers, due to its geographical and climatic characteristics, especially in the coastal municipalities, but there are also those who prefer bucolic peace and the contemplative pleasures of the mountains to the cliché sun and beach» , frame the organizers of the event.

This trend “may, in the near future, bring beneficial effects to the much-vaunted dynamization and repopulation of inland regions, halting their abandonment and making them again more sustainable”.

With this meeting, it is intended that in this 9th edition of the event, «past, present and future walk side by side, in favor of dynamizing the heritage of the Algarve mountains and its sustainable development».

Tomorrow, Sunday, at the same time, there will be a new conversation, this time about “Good hiking experiences by experienced hikers”, with Deni Vargues and Bruno Rodrigues.

As for the festival itself, which runs until monday, as in previous years, the program is varied and includes dozens of themed walks for all ages, workshops, activities for children, yoga in nature, community dinners, circle dances and a local market.

But there are also novelties, such as the recovery of a traditional source, the construction of banks in rammed earth and a food-truck that will be at various points of the festival to serve vegetarian and vegan foods, made with local and seasonal products.

«Thus, in addition to the goals of preserving, recovering and enhancing the territory, the cultural and scenic heritage, which are always present at this festival, we add this reflection on new lifestyles and trends in the labor market, in which traveling and working at the same time are can become a reality», conclude the organizers of the Ameixial Hiking Festival.

The 9th Ameixial Hiking Festival is an initiative of the Loulé City Council and the Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories (QRER), organized by Proactivetur and the ESTELA Project. As part of the Algarvensis Geopark initiatives, it also has the support of the Algarve Tourism Region, the Parish Council of Ameixial, Visacar, ANA Aeroportos, the Directorate General for Cultural Heritage, the Loulé Municipal Museum and Espaço Sul, Sol and Sal – Casa do Meio Dia.
