Disrupt'22, a startup competition to help put the Algarve on the innovation map

Algarve Tech Hub Summit takes place from March 28 to April 3, on different stages in Faro and Loulé

It is a startup competition, open to the public, that wants to stimulate new ideas, from the inspiration phase to the presentation, rewarding the most innovative ones. Disrupt'22 takes place from March 31st to April 2nd, as part of the Algarve Tech Hub Summit.

Guest speakers and mentors will include Anas El Arras (Growin Portugal), André Marquet (Productized), Ben Marks (#workanywhere), Dimitrios Buhalis (Hong Kong Polytechnic University), Hugo Lourenço (Experience Agile), Kim Zietlow (German Digital Hub Initiative), Laura Bock Blumes (Empowered Startups), Marco Peerboom (Decred), Stewart Noakes (Canopy Lx), Stuart Young (Radtac), Tim Vieira (Brave Generation) and Vanda Everke (Spy Manor Productions).

The technology and innovation event takes place between the 31st of March and the 2nd of April, at the Campus da Penha, at the University of Algarve, in Faro.

Comprising lectures, round tables, mentoring sessions, it is aimed at the academic community, entrepreneurs, researchers and entrepreneurs, in the areas of sustainability and circular economy, economy of the sea (Blue Economy), agrotech, smart destinations and digital transformation.

To participate, it is not necessary to have a concrete idea: the Inspiration Sessions and thematic panels, on the first day of the competition, will help to explore possibilities through the Idea Match platform.

«On the second day, it is the training phase for start-ups and materialization of ideas, development of presentations – from pitch to design –, with mentoring sessions. Workshops on the metaverse, cryptocurrency, blockchain technology, artificial intelligence and cybersecurity follow.

On the third and last day of Disrupt'22, the ideas will be presented to the competition. In total, there are 20 thousand euros, including monetary prizes and vouchers for technological products and services, to be shared between the three winners.

The competition jury is made up of one member from each entity involved in organizing the first edition of the Algarve Tech Hub Summit: Algarve STP – Systems and Technology Partnership, Algarve Tech Hub (ATH), Algarve Evolution, AMAL – Comunidade Intermunicipal do Algarve, ANJE – National Association of Young Entrepreneurs, city councils of Faro and Loulé, Algarve Regional Development and Coordination Commission (CCDR Algarve), Faro 2027, Museu Zero, NERA – Business Association of the Algarve Region and University of the Algarve.

The Algarve Tech Hub Summit aims to promote the region as a global and competitive technological hub and attract entrepreneurs, digital nomads and remote workers.

The event takes place from the 28th of March to the 3rd of April, on different stages in Faro and Loulé and will bring together 10 countries and more than 50 speakers from various areas of innovation and technology, such as Tourism, Sea, Health, Energy, Digital and Culture. Conferences, debates, exhibitions and networking events are planned.
