Algarve Biomedical Center signs contract with the European Medicines Agency to carry out pre-clinical trials

ABC in first place in world contest

Nuno Marques, president of ABC

The Algarve Biomedical Center (ABC), through its research center (Algarve Biomedical Center Research Institute, ABC-RI) and in collaboration with researchers from the University of Algarve, will be responsible for conducting pre-clinical studies on quality, efficacy and medicine safety for the European Medicines Agency (EMA) over the next five years.

«After a selection based on the project presented, the research team and the available conditions, ABC came first in the international call that sought institutions providing pre-clinical studies for EMA», explains ABC.

In addition to being "relevant and well-structured", the ABC proposal, according to the EMA, "presents the necessary methods to be able to meet the required objectives". The “high quality” of the team of researchers that will be responsible for carrying out these essential trials to guarantee the safety of the medicines is also highlighted.

The contract, signed today, September 14, represents «the recognition of ABC's quality and technical capacity in scientific research carried out throughout Europe», explains Nuno Marques, president of ABC.
