Elderly from Boliqueime's home is Covid-14's 19th mortal victim in the Algarve

Lady died at the Hospital of Faro, this Sunday

A 90 year old user from the home of Santa Casa da Misericórdia de Boliqueime is the 14th mortal victim of Covid-19 in the Algarve.

The elderly woman died yesterday, Sunday, at the Hospital of Faro, where she was hospitalized, announced the Misericórdia of Boliqueime on your facebook page.

This is the fourth death since the start of the pandemic in this nursing home, driven by the new coronavirus, place where the first Covid-19 cases were confirmed on April 3rd.

Covid-19 claimed the first fatality in this home on April 19, as Sul Informação advanced first-hand. The elderly woman in question, Maria dos Remédios Silva Guerreiro, 92 years old, was the mother of the writer Lídia Jorge.

On Sunday, the 26th, a second user died, Maria do Carmo Neves Ataíde, 81 years old, victim of the same disease. Two days later, on April 28, passed away Arminda de Sousa Antão.

 




 

However, the vast majority of the four dozen users and employees of this home who have been diagnosed with Covid-19 have already recovered, including Sílvia Sebastião, who recently received her second negative test after having to stay at home for weeks because she was infected with the disease. "I'm back home now and I'm working," he told our newspaper, without hiding his enthusiasm.

“Right now, the situation is much less bleak. We have six people still sick here in the home and another three in the hospital», revealed the provider.

Of the hospitalized users, none are in intensive care. “One user presented a coughing condition, but is recovering very well. Another user, a gentleman, is also recovering. A third lady, despite having Covid-19, is in the hospital because she had a fall, not for reasons associated with the disease», she said.

The first 21 cases of Covid-19 in the SCM home in Boliqueime were diagnosed on April 3rd. In the two weeks that followed, the number increased, with the disease also being diagnosed in employees. Since mid-April until today, most cases have been resolved.

Second today's epidemiological bulletin, May 11, from the Directorate-General for Health (DGS), in addition to one more fatal victim, the Algarve has two more confirmed cases of Covid-19, bringing the total to 348, in numbers accumulated since the beginning of the pandemic.
