DRAP and associations unite to expand the Algarve's Local Producers Network

The objective is to bring Algarve producers closer to the final consumer

The Algarve Regional Directorate for Agriculture and Fisheries (DRAP) joined forces with the Local Development Associations in the region to «extend and maximize to the maximum» the Algarve Local Producers Network, which was created within the scope of In's “O Prato Certo” project. Loco.

DRAP joined forces with In Loco, but also with the Vicentina, Terras do Baixo Guadiana associations, to make this network of contacts of local producers even more comprehensive.

At a time when the Covid-19 epidemic and the declaration of a state of emergency forced changes in consumer habits and the profound limitation or even suspension of markets and fairs, as well as of various businesses, this idea emerged to «shorten the distance between supply and demand, betting on short commercialization circuits, putting in direct contact between those who produce (fresh fruit and fishery and aquaculture products, including processed products, among others) and those who consume».

According to DRAP do Algarve, this initiative is intended to “guarantee the survival of this more familiar business fabric, with a smaller size and capacity for resilience in the face of adversity, but at the same time so important for the occupation and structuring of the economic base of the territories. », while providing consumers with «a safer and more environmentally responsible way to shop».

«We also launched the challenge to the Algarve's municipalities and parish councils to join us in this worthy initiative, not only identifying and encouraging local producers from their territories who can join, but also disseminating and signaling the relevance of using this platform in network for making purchases», concluded the regional direction.
