The fire that broke out this afternoon, near Cachopo, in the municipality of Tavira, continues with an active front, but is yielding to the means and the "situation is more favorable", said a source from the District Relief Operations Command to the Sul Informação.
Jorge Botelho, mayor of Tavira, told our newspaper that the fire broke out in the Amoreira area, in a forested area, and that “it was not necessary to evacuate houses”.
According to the mayor, "there are crawling machines on the way" to the theater of operations, to help the 141 operatives who are still fighting the flames.
The firefighters are being supported by 41 vehicles and 7 aerial means. A plane that was fighting the flames landed at the Beliche Dam, but the pilot was not injured.
