Cineteatro Louletano will have “Ricardo III”, Lloyd Cole and Luís Osório in May

There is a lot to choose from

Theater with “Ricardo III”, a concert by Lloyd Cole, a show by Luís Osório and much more. May will be a full month at Cineteatro Louletano, with dance, theater, music, a kind of stand-up (but without much comedy) and an international festival.

On the 3rd, Cineteatro Louletano welcomes Ricardo III, from Companhia Terra Amarela. Shakespeare's play, which is an international co-production, premiered in Spain, in Madrid, at the Centro Dramatico Nacional, and is performed in Portuguese Sign Language (LPG) and Spanish Sign Language (LSE), including the participation of several actors/actresses deaf.

The following day, a name that for many needs no introduction: Lloyd Cole comes to Cineteatro Louletano with an acoustic concert that is part of the international tour that brings him to Portugal.

The English singer and songwriter was part of the band Commotions, which had several hits in the 90s, including perhaps the best-known song “Jennifer She Said”.

The concert is on the 4th, at 21pm, and is sold out.

Between the 6th and 10th of May, Palácio Gama Lobo hosts a creative residency entitled “Irrar”, by UmColetivo. After gathering inspiration and research and creation work, “Irrar” will become a performance aimed mainly at families. On stage, there will be five performers who negotiate among themselves the possibilities of making mistakes in order to love humanity, based on the literary experiences of Salette Tavares. The residence will have a series of workshops with pre-school and primary schools.

On Saturday, May 11th, journalist Luís Osório headlines a show created from his book of the same name, “Ficheiros Secretos”, delving into the recent history of Portugal and bringing to the stage memories of notable figures such as Mário Soares, José Saramago and Amália Rodrigues , between others. The show is at 21pm.

Sunday, the 12th, there is a concert at 17pm with the group “Lá No Xepangara”. The collective, led by Manuel de Oliveira, brings together artists such as Isabel Novella (Mozambique), Selma Uamusse (Mozambique), Fred Martins (Brazil), Karyna Gomes (Guiné Bissau) and Edu Mundo (Portugal) and brings them to Loulé, within the scope of celebrations of the 00th anniversary of the 50th of April, the sound of José Afonso's music and words.

The project reflects the strong presence of African culture in the life and work of Zeca Afonso and his role in the fight for decolonization, democratization and development of Portuguese-speaking society and culture.

The following Tuesday, May 14th, there is another French Film of the Month, with “Annie Colère”. Because she becomes pregnant by accident, Annie, a factory worker and mother of two children, discovers the MLAC – Movement for the Freedom of Abortion and Contraception – which practices illegal abortions in the eyes of everyone. Received by this unique movement, based on concrete help for women and the sharing of knowledge, she will find a new meaning in her life in the fight for the adoption of the abortion law. It is at 21pm, in the Solar da Música Nova Auditorium, with free entry.

On the 16th, there will be sessions for schools, in the Auditorium of the Convento do Espírito Santo, for secondary school students in the municipality of Loulé.

It is “Planeta R”, by ArQuente. It starts from the concern that Planet Earth is in danger and that this danger threatens living beings, in general, with excessive pollution and the destruction of natural resources. The show is included in the Climate Week program.

On Saturday, May 18th, at 11:30 am, there will be a “Crescendo” concert, at the Solar da Música Nova Auditorium. Entry is free. “Crescendo” are musical moments that highlight and promote the work developed by Conservatory students, simultaneously valuing the learning of young artists, cultural intervention and connection with the community.

On the same day, but in the evening, at 21pm, there is theater, with a play by Sara Barros Leitão. It’s called “Guião para um País Possível”, a show that uses Audio Description

Then, between May 21st and 25th, Cineteatro Louletano presents the Festival Tanto Mar, created by Associação Folha de Medronho, based in Loulé, which is now in its fifth edition. The central axis involves the exchange of knowledge, experiences and memories, substantiated in training, production and co-production actions, in joint work with CPLP (Community of Portuguese Speaking Countries) groups. With a special dedication to the celebration of the 50th anniversary of the 25th of April, Tanto Mar aims to contribute to the diversity and quality of the artistic offer in the national territory, presenting works that are based on other cultures, other aesthetic paths, which although they intersect and contaminate , maintain their own idiosyncrasies. On the 22nd, Tanto Mar offers a workshop with Lena Bahule, a Mozambican artist and interpreter.

On May 26th, Sunday, two sessions with concerts for babies, by Musicalmente, at 10:00 am and 11:30 am. The Solar da Música Nova Auditorium hosts “Nas Asas de um Uirápuru”.

On the same day, but in the afternoon, there is a double concert by the Artistas de Minerva Philharmonic Band, which this time, to celebrate the 148th anniversary, invites musicians from the Loulé Conservatory of Music – Francisco Rosado, sharing the stage with the Wind Orchestra and Percussion (2nd and 3rd cycles).

And finally, on May 31st, at 21pm, there is dancing, with “Suores de Mel e a Morte Não Terá Domínio”, by Joana von Mayer Trindade and Hugo Calhim Cristóvão, a piece with Audio Description. A show that treats Dance as insubordination and a revolution of heterodoxy, articulating the show with the poetry of Natália Correia and Luiza Neto Jorge, also adding Nietzsche's Philosophy/Dance.

This show is preceded by a masterclass with the two choreographers, Joana von Mayer Trindade and Hugo Calhim Cristóvão, on the 28th, at 18pm, at Palácio Gama Lobo. Registration can be made via email at [email protected]
