Castro Marim: Pisa Barro's new water supply network is now operational

The work cost more than one million euros

The water supply network in Pisa Barro, an investment by Castro Marim Council of more than one million euros, has already been inaugurated and is already serving the population of this location, the municipality announced.

The work, «which was one of the major objectives of the municipality and this executive», was completed this week, «thus allowing the supply of water, in quantity and quality, putting an end to the unstable supply that existed thanks to underground catchments that fed own networks, private or fountains».

From now on, and thanks to this intervention, «water supply is now carried out from the extension of the currently existing municipal distribution network, based on two alternative sources: the Monte Francisco Reservoir and the Cabeço Reservoir, integrated into the Algarve Multimunicipal Water Supply System.

This project was approved by the PO SEUR program, supported by Portugal and the European Union, co-financed at 82,04% by the Cohesion Fund.

The inauguration of this supply network was part of the celebration program for the 50th Anniversary of the 25th of April, especially because celebrating the Carnation Revolution «is also celebrating the growing presence of local authorities in improving people's living conditions and providing basic services, from water supply to the population to cultural programming».

In 2020, the Municipality of Castro Marim carried out work that extended the water supply network to more than 30 villages in the parishes of Azinhal and Odeleite, «intending to continue with this policy in population clusters not yet served».
