Mata do Liceu and Jardim da Alameda João de Deus, in Faro, they will be washed face "at the end of 2020 or 2021". The Chamber of Faro presented, this Thursday, the requalification plans for these two green spaces, which will cost around 1,4 million euros.

According to Rogério Bacalhau, president of the municipality of the Algarve capital, “it is likely that interventions can take place from the end of next year or in early 2020. The competition takes time to prepare and a competition of this nature will never take less than 10 , 11 or 12 months. Then, taking into account the amounts in question, which imply the approval of the Court of Auditors, everything will take a long time. This process started last year, it will take another two years to complete».

The mayor explains that «we will only start the works, probably, in 2020. Afterwards, there will be nine months of work. Between the end of 2020 and 2021, the spaces will be requalified. It's the schedule we have».

In the case of Jardim da Alameda, the intervention, which will cost 650 euros, provides for the improvement of the pavement of the pedestrian axes, reforestation and replanting, new lighting, new urban furniture, the design of new pedestrian circuits, the creation of an «imaginative and interactive psychomotor playground», the relocation and re-equipment of the geriatric park, the transformation of the skating rink into a multifunctional platform that can host events, the reconstruction of the characteristics of the “Caracol dos Namorados” and the creation of new bathrooms and service areas.

On the other hand, the work in Mata do Liceu, according to the Chamber, «intends to respect the existing design, enhancing its functional diversification for all ages». The project sought to «recreate some of the existing spaces, such as the geriatric park, the playground and the amphitheater, and introduce new ones. anchor spaces, as is the case in the area of Street Workout, arborism and the Memorial».

The proposal for Mata do Liceu also intends to hierarchize the pedestrian routes, with the creation of a main route, «large, comfortable and of great visual amplitude, and a secondary route, similar to a cross-country track, intended for practice. of physical exercise.

One of the major problems that led to the degradation of both Mata do Liceu and Jardim da Alameda was the lack of maintenance. This time, to prevent these issues from recurring, it will be handed over to the Chamber of Faro a management plan that details timings necessary interventions, so that these two important green spaces in the city do not degrade again.

For Rogério Bacalhau, “a major intervention” was needed in these two places. “If we made specific interventions, to change luminaires, for example, they would get lost in the amalgamation of problems that exist”, he explained.

The two projects were presented by José Brito, landscape architect, as part of the initiative Faro Positivo, which aims to make known the works in progress in the county.

In addition to the requalification projects for Mata do Liceu and Jardim da Alameda, the project for the relocation of fishermen from the fishing community of Praia de Faro, in Montenegro, and the works, already in progress, of the Polisportivo da Conceição de Faro and High Performance Training Center at Parque das Cidades.
