Adriano Moreira, former leader of the CDS, was the guest of the monthly dinner-lecture of the Rotary Clube de Albufeira, which took place on Friday, the 5th. Adriano Moreira chose as the theme of his lecture «Globalization and Human Rights».

The event is part of the cycle of monthly lectures, which the Rotary club, chaired by António Góis Nóbrega, has been promoting during the current Rotary year, «deepening current matters of relevant interest to society».

At the end of the Rotary year, the Rotary Clube de Albufeira will present a book edition, containing all the lectures given and their conclusions, «so that the discussion and interest in the issues addressed at the end of each event is not depleted» .

Statesman, politician, jurist, political scientist, sociologist and university professor, Adriano Moreira was born in Macedo de Cavaleiros, in 1922.

Assuming public positions since his youth, he was a prominent figure in the Estado Novo in the context of colonial policy: he was Minister of Overseas (1961/63), founded and directed institutes of African studies, including the General University Studies of Lourenço Marques (Maputo) and Luanda, and chaired the Lisbon Geography Society, among other positions.

After the 25th of April, he became one of the leading figures of the Social Democratic Center (CDS) and a respected parliamentarian. He was a deputy since 1979 and vice-president of the Assembly of the Republic between 1991-1995, then leaving political life.

Since then, Adriano Moreira has continued to dedicate himself to teaching and research, having released several books.
