Farense denounces “ambush” and attacks on fans after game with Länk Vilaverdense

Farense lost 3-2 against Länk Vilaverdense this Sunday

Farense reported today that its fans were the target of an “ambush” and attacks, with two people needing hospital treatment, after the game with Länk Vilaverdense, in the Portuguese Football Cup.

In a statement, the I Liga club revealed, «with deep dismay», that its fans were «barbarically attacked» after the end of the match in the third round of the competition, played in Vila Verde, in the district of Braga, which the Algarve lost (3-2).

«Approximately half an hour after the end of the game and in the vicinity of the municipal stadium of Cruz do Reguengo, a group of Farense fans, heading to the bus that would transport them back to Faro, were ambushed by a group of approximately 20 to 30 elements, with their faces covered and armed with belts, sticks and other accessories, who brutally assaulted them", reads the note released by the club Faro.

According to Farense, the attacked fans were assisted at the scene by medical emergency teams, with the support of the Algarve's medical team, and two people were taken to the hospital in order to carry out the necessary tests.

These «deplorable, violent and cowardly acts» were reported to the authorities present at the scene, namely the GNR, who «proceeded with the competent report of the occurrence, starting the investigation process that SC Farense will monitor in the capacity of assistant», adds the emblem Algarve.

Given the «seriousness of what happened», Farense emphasizes that «during the current season it will make countless trips to clubs in the vicinity of the city of Braga», appealing to the competent entities and authorities «to quickly identify and punish exemplarily the aggressors”.

Länk Vilaverdense, from the II Liga, beat the first division Farense, 3-2, at home today and qualified for the fourth round of the Portuguese Football Cup.

Lénio (54 minutes), João Caiado (87) and Bruno Silva (90+1) scored the goals for the last-placed side of the II League, which reaches the fourth round of the Cup for the second consecutive time, with Talocha (90+3) and Bruno Duarte (90+8, penalty) to reduce.
