Regional Directorate of Culture and National Plan for the Arts sign protocol

There are several projects under development

The Algarve Regional Directorate of Culture (DRCAlg) and the National Arts Plan (PNA) signed today, April 28, in Faro, a collaboration protocol for carrying out joint actions, to enhance creativity, critical thinking, proximity and familiarity with the arts and creative processes, with emphasis on access to the arts in the school community of the Algarve.

Within the scope of this protocol, a meeting will be organised, in partnership, in the second half of this year, on the theme “Cultural Responsibility” of business organisations.

The meeting is intended to «encourage the cultural impact of companies and publicize good practices, reflect and present future proposals for the promotion of increasingly expressive cultural enjoyment practices in the region, support for regional artistic creation and production, as well as safeguard, preserve and enjoy the material and immaterial cultural heritage of the region. This initiative is in line with the measure “Cultural Commitment of Corporate Organizations”, one of the fundamental axes of the PNA”.

The “Resident Artist at School” project, which will allow one or two schools in the region to have an artist working on their premises and in direct contact with students, is another project planned under this protocol.

The choice of resident artists in the schools and educational establishments covered will be articulated between the two entities.

This is one of the measures, from Axis C of the PNA “Education and Access”, which aims to “articulate the school, the curriculum, the contents, the territory, the community, the heritage and the local culture”.

The “Resident Artist at the school” is an artist from the territory who intends to be simultaneously «proponent and protagonist of the change that shapes the school and can assume different degrees of participation».

The National Plan for the Arts, promoted by the governmental areas of Culture and Education, aims to make the arts more accessible to citizens, in particular to children and young people, through the educational community, promoting participation, fruition and cultural creation, in a logic of inclusion and lifelong learning.

It intends to encourage the cultural commitment of communities and organizations and develop collaboration networks and partnerships with public and private entities, namely, working in conjunction with pre-existing plans, programs and networks.

The national coordinator of the National Arts Plan was in the Algarve today to learn about some projects that are being developed by schools de Faro and São Brás de Alportel.
