Ferragudo has a new Mortuary but there is no rush to open it

New equipment is modern, affordable, more dignified and ecumenical

«This is one of those works that we don't want to open so soon», joked Luís Alberto, president of the Parish Council of Ferragudo, at the signing of the inter-administrative contract between this municipality and the Municipality of Lagoa, for the management of the new Mortuary village.

The contract was signed, on the 1st of November, between the presidents of the Junta de Ferragudo and the Municipality of Lagoa.

Luís Alberto pointed out that the new Mortuary comes “to remove the equipment from the place where it was, next to the church, where it was not able and even caused problems, namely traffic”.

The new equipment, «modern, accessible» and classified as «an asset for the town», was built from scratch opposite the Ferragudo Cemetery.

Furthermore, it is an “ecumenical” piece of equipment, as mayor Luís Encarnação recalled, since the interior room, where the wakes will take place, “has no religious symbol”.

The Mortuary House will thus provide «comfort in the last tribute to the friends and relatives of the deceased, believers or non-believers, in an ecumenical spirit provided by the architecture, framing and furniture».

Commenting on the transfer of management of the new equipment from the Chamber to the Parish Council, Luís Encarnação underlined that “those closest to the populations must assume responsibility”.

The signing of the contract was part of the commemorations of the 23rd anniversary of the elevation of Ferragudo to the status of town, which took place on the 1st of November.

In addition to the usual hoisting of the flags, this time with the presence of two groups of scouts, the 413 of Ferragudo and the 511 of Lagoa, brightened by the fanfare of the latter, homage was paid during the morning to the former combatants buried in the village cemetery. .

The afternoon began with an extraordinary Parish Assembly, with a single point on the agenda, to deliberate on the inter-administrative contract between the Parish Council and the Municipality of Lagoa, with a view to the management of the new Mortuary of the town, which would be signed shortly afterwards, in a ceremony at the former Casa do Compromisso Marítimo.

This was followed by the presentation of the new Branding from Ferragudo.

The day ended with a DJ set, at sunset, at Largo Rainha D. Leonor, with DJ Alexandre Ramos and saxophonist Luis Raposo.
