100 Algarve companies go to the Algarve Tech Hub's Web Summit “hitchhiking”

The purpose of this presence is to «open the doors to the world of the new digital destination that is born in southern Europe»

The Algarve Tech Hub (ATH) will take 100 technological and digital companies from the Algarve to the Web Summit that will take place from the 1st to the 4th of November, in Lisbon. This is a «decisive step in the affirmation and positioning of the Algarve on the international map of the technological vanguard».

According to the Algarve Tech Hub, the objective of this presence is to «open the doors to the world of the new digital destination that is born in southern Europe».

This presence at the Web Summit, the main European entrepreneurship conference, «represents the ambition of a regional will that has been asserting itself in recent years» and which arises from the work of four entities: the Algarve Evolution Association, the University of the Algarve ( UAlg), the Algarve Tourism Association (ATA) and the Algarve Tourism Region (RTA).

Going to this conference also follows on from what is one of the great goals of the Algarve Tech Hub: reaching the four corners of the world, captivating the best talents and investments of the new digital age for the Algarve region (startups, digital nomads, remote workers, entrepreneurs and students).

In this sense, there are already several entities representing the public and private sector that are part of the Algarve STP and that, together with Algarve Evolution and the University of Algarve, manage the regional technological ecosystem.

In the last five years, several steps have taken place that led to the formalization of the Algarve Tech Hub, which, this year, is at the «high point of its growth».

For example, the British multinational Deloitte and Atos, a leading company in digital transformation, already have facilities in Faro, at the technological center UAlg Tec Campus, in Faro.

Just recently, the travel search engine momondo placed Portugal as the best «destination to travel and work remotely, ahead of countries like Spain, Japan and Germany» and, in the same sense, the North American news agency Bloomberg reported that the Algarve has cities like Lagos and Faro considered havens for digital nomads, ahead of destinations like Barcelona.

It's because?

«Because the Algarve is the place where those who work also have time to live. A safe, inclusive, multicultural, welcoming region, with an excellent climate and gastronomy, not to mention good broadband internet connections and easy air connections», concludes the Algarve Tech Hub.

Moreover, this trip to the Web Summit also comes after, this year, the first edition of the Algarve Tech Hub Summit took place, which brought 1000 participants from all over the world to the region. The initiative will return next year.
