Tourism and Regional Directorate of Agriculture offer oranges to tourists at the Airport

Over four days, tourists will be welcomed with «sweet and juicy oranges from the Algarve»

after the preserves, 'sweet and juicy' oranges. Turismo do Algarve and the Regional Directorate of Agriculture of the Algarve will distribute a ton of Algarve oranges to tourists arriving at the international airport of Faro (Gago Coutinho Airport) for a vacation in the main national tourist destination.

The action, which has the support of a regional producer and the Faro, runs from the 9th to the 12th of August, from 9 am to 00 pm.

This Tuesday, the 9th, at 9:30 am, João Fernandes, president of Turismo do Algarve, and Mário Dias, deputy regional director for Agriculture and Fisheries in the Algarve, will distribute the oranges.

The citrus fruit of the Algarve is today a «business card» for the region. They were the first regional product with a Protected Geographical Indication (PGI), obtained in 1994, and the Algarve holds the title of main citrus fruit producer in the country.

It is estimated that, in the Algarve, citrus fruits occupy an area of ​​around 16 thousand hectares and that production exceeds 350 thousand tons per year.

Last week, in a similar initiative, also to promote the Mediterranean Diet, Pedro Valadas Monteiro was at the airport of Faro to distribute canned food to tourists that were arriving.
