Portimonense beat Marítimo 1-0 this Saturday, in a game counting for the last round of the I Liga, played in Madeira.

Both Portimonense and Marítimo entered the match with guaranteed maintenance and no prospects of reaching European places.

Maybe that's why none of the teams tried, at first, to speed up the match.

The first half was played at a generally low pace, with the teams creating few opportunities.

In the 28th minute, Joel Tagueu isolated himself against Nakamura, but the Portimonense goalkeeper got in his way and avoided the goal with a good save.

In the 37th minute, Shoya Nakajima shot hard from outside the area, but hit the post.

Right after the break, Portimonense tried a few times to target the opposing goal, but without scaring the Madeiran goalkeeper.

Joel Tagueu, who was stronger than Pedrão and once again isolated himself against Nakamura, was the one who scared the players and supporters of Portimão again. Once again, it was the Japanese guardian who prevailed.

From here, the game got split and animated.

And Portimonense would even reach the goal, in the 80th minute, through Ewerton. Wellington received inside the area and assisted his teammate, who touched the back of the net.

Marítimo tried to react and tried to tie the game. But Portimonense also lurked the counterattack, with the prospect of “killing” the game.

And the Algarve were very close to doing it, it was already over 90, but Luquinha, twice, couldn't beat Miguel Silva.

With this result, Portimonense ends the championship with 38 points, in a quiet 12th position, with the same points as Marítimo, Boavista and Paços de Ferreira.
