“Monstrare” returns to Loulé in the first edition of Algarve Film Week

The initiative will run from the 18th to the 23rd of January

Monstrare – Mostra Internacional de Cinema Social returns to Loulé for a new edition, which will take place from the 18th to the 23rd of January, as part of the first edition of the Algarve Film Week, an initiative that brings together, in one week, several cinematographic events. .

According to the municipality of Loulé, the exhibition, an initiative of the City Council and the Loulé Film Office, is composed of short and feature film sessions, national and international, as well as debates and a masterclass about filmmaking.

Taking place between Cineteatro Louletanto, Solar da Música Nova Auditorium, Casa do Meio Dia and Loulé Secondary School, Monstrare will start on Tuesday, January 18th, with an information session for young people, entitled “ Mental Health and the Pandemic”, which will feature the presence of the psychologist Luís Neves and Nuno Murcho (Regional Health Administration of the Algarve) at the Loulé Secondary School.

On the same day, at night, three Portuguese short films will be presented at the Solar da Música Nova Auditorium, namely “A Viagem”, by Henrique Lopes, “Macabre”, by Jerónimo Rocha and João Miguel Real and “Erva Daninha” , by Guilherme Daniel.

The Caminhos do Cinema Português Festival was also invited to program two sessions at the Algarve Film Week, on the 19th of January.

On this day, the public will be able to watch a session composed of the films “O Lobo Solitário”, by Filipe Melo, and “O Que Resta”, by Daniel Soares, the animated short “O Macaco”, by Xosé Zapata and Lorenzo Degl´ Innocent, a co-production between Portugal and Spain and the feature film “Clube dos Anjos”, directed by Brazilian Angelo Defanti, in a Portugal/Brazil co-production.

 

 

On the third day, journalist Carlos Albino and Miguel Fernandes from Algarve Tech Hub will be discussing Artificial Intelligence at Casa do Meio-Dia. In the Solar da Música Nova Auditorium, “Sorry! A Story About Bullying”, by Dave Schram, a Dutch film that deals with the issue of bullying in schools, based on Carry Slee's book.

The quarteirense director Bernardo Lopes, who in 2021 received numerous awards for his short film “Moço”, among them the Sophia Award for Best Short Film, will give a masterclass, on the 21st of January, about filmmaking, in the auditorium of Escola Secundária de Loulé.

On the same day, the animated documentary “Flee” is shown, awarded at Sundance and Annecy, and which was part of the official selection of festivals such as Cannes or IndieLisboa. Directed by the Danish Jonas Poher Rasmussen, it tells the true story of a man who, about to get married, decides to reveal his past as an Afghan refugee.

Film journalist Rui Pedro Tendinha returns to Loulé for the 2nd edition of the Cinetendinha awards, in a ceremony that will be broadcast in live streaming, from the Cineteatro Louletano. These awards aim to distinguish the best national films and actors of 2021.

The exhibition ends on Sunday, January 23, at 17 pm, with the screening of “00 ½”, the second feature film by Portuguese director Adriano Mendes. The film focuses on the character of Teresa, played by Anabela Caetano, over the course of a difficult day and night.

Monstrare – International Social Film Festival 2022 is free of charge.
