A 47-year-old man suspected of having given rise, "by accident", to the fire that this morning it exploded near Bensafrim (Lagos), has already been identified by the GNR, found the Sul Informação from this corporation's source.

The Communications and Public Relations Officer of the Territorial Command of Faro GNR told our newspaper that the man was "cleaning the land" when he lit the flames, but that he "did not intentionally do it", "nor was acting illegally", since "the risk of fire was not prohibitive of this activity». The municipality of Lagos is today at “very high” risk, the second on a scale of five.

CMTV says that the man, of German nationality, was clearing the bush with a shredding machine next to his caravan, on land he owned.

However, there is good news about this fire, as one of the two fronts has already been subdued, while the second front, located to the east of the EN120 and burning in an area of stone pine, is « 50% dominated and yielding to the means of combat», he revealed to the Sul Informação CDO source of Faro.

Track machines are now doing 'consolidation work' on the first front to prevent re-ignitions.

The same source from the CDO added that, "due to the intensification of the wind, there have been many projections", which make it difficult to fight the flames and force the media to be repositioned several times.

Apparently, if the wind doesn't change, this fire could soon be considered controlled.

The EN120 road, which connects Lagos to Aljezur, is still cut off.

At this moment, the fire that broke out at 11:20 am at Feiteira's site, near Bensafrim, is being fought by 166 firefighters from all over the Algarve, supported by 54 vehicles and 7 aerial means.
