Arrebita brings together 30 chefs on their return to Portimão

Second edition will take place on the weekend of August 21st and 22nd

Arrrebita will return to the city of Portimão for a second edition that promises to shake up the streets of the city's historic center again on the weekend of 21 and 22 August, between 18:30 and 22:30, which will bring together around 30 chefs that will pay tribute to the best local raw material, in a partnership between Amuse Bouche and the City Council.

Similar to what has been happening in all Arrebita events, the program «has renowned names in the national gastronomic scene, but also young talents on the rise», being the challenge «to be inspired by the Portuguese coast and the Algarve mountains for the creation of unique dishes», begins by stating the organization of the initiative in a note sent to the newsrooms.

Admission will be free and each “unique” dish will have a fixed price of six euros.

Among the chefs present, six chefs from Michelin-starred kitchens stand out: João Oliveira, from Vista restaurant, Portimão, who introduces himself for the first time to the city that welcomed him outside the Bela Vista Hotel & Spa kitchen, Pedro Almeida, from Midori in Sintra, Rui Silvestre from Vistas restaurant in Vila Nova de Cacela, José Lopes from Bon Bon in Carvoeiro), João Alves, sous chef from the LOCO restaurant, in Lisbon, and the duo Américo dos Santos and Miguel Gomes, two pastry chefs at José Avillez's restaurant, Belcanto, in Lisbon.

Some of the most promising young cooks in the country will also be present, such as João Narigueta and Filipe Rebocho (Híbrido, Évora), Pedro Sousa (Mr. Lisbon, Lisbon), Tomás Rocha and Rita Gama (Bicho Mau, Lisbon) or pastry chef Carlos Fernandes.

Also cooking together will be Leandro Araújo and Rui Sequeira, responsible for two of the trendiest restaurants in the Algarve, Cafezique, in Loulé, and Alameda, in Faro.

On both days, at least one dish will have sardines as its star, «in homage to one of the most iconic and ancient festivals in the Algarve, the Portimão Sardine Festival», being also highlighted «other species from our coast, as it is the case of mackerel and horse mackerel», explains the organization.

The event will take place in the same place as last year, occupying two streets in the center of Portimão, both with entrance to Praça da República (Alameda).

The chefs will cook from all kinds of shops (barber shops, candy shops, stationers, among others), which will be invited to take an active role in the festival.

Winner of the 2020 Grand Prix of the Portuguese Academy of Gastronomy, “Arrebita Portugal” is an Amuse Bouche creation whose mission is “to stimulate the local economy and commerce, boost cities and regions and encourage national tourism”.
