There are already nine aerial means – four heavy planes, one heavy helicopter, two light ones and two coordination helicopters – fighting the flames of the fire that started around lunchtime in the parish of Marmelete, in the Monchique mountains, and which is heading towards to the Bravura Dam and the Algarve International Autodrome, in the neighboring municipality of Portimão.

Source of the Algarve Regional Command has just told the Sul Informação that fire already has two fronts, with the work of the media being hampered by the “much wind”.

According to the same source, until now it had not been necessary to carry out any evacuation of inhabitants. However, SIC reported recently, live from the site, that an elderly home in Pereira is being evacuated, as a precaution.

Civil Protection has also restricted circulation on some of the roads in the area north of the Autodromo.

At the moment, there are 232 operatives assigned to the fire, supported by 71 vehicles, from corporations from all over the Algarve.

About an hour after the fire started, the Porto de Lagos Commander told our newspaper that a safety zone was being prepared at sea, in front of Meia Praia, for firefighting aircraft to refuel..

The fire started at 13:26 pm, at the Tojeiro farm, Marmelete, in the Monchique mountains.
