Covid-19: Student from Pinheiro e Rosa infected, the whole class is in quarantine

This is the second time that Pinheiro e Rosa has had to deal with Covid-19 cases

A 10th grade student at the Pinheiro e Rosa Secondary School, in Faro, tested positive for Covid-19 this Thursday, September 24th. The whole class is now 'in prophylactic isolation and distance learning'.

Ao Sul Informação, Francisco Soares, director of the Pinheiro e Rosa Schools Group, confirmed this case, which was first put forward by the newspaper Observador.

Suspicions arose on Wednesday and the test result was known the next day.

"Immediately, we activated our contingency plan and the whole gang went home," explained Francisco Soares to our newspaper.

As for the class teachers, after an evaluation also by the health delegate, «they continue to work because they always wore a mask and kept a safe distance, as well as hand hygiene».

The director of the Grouping of Schools believes that the virus "has not spread, even because we comply with all the rules."

«The school, I say again, is the safest place for students to be. The cases we had, also in the past, were all from outside the school. This one now, there are no certainties, but it will have arisen in the family circle», explained Francisco Soares.

Moreover, the sister of the infected student, also a student at the school, has already taken the Covid-19 test and ended up being negative. In the coming days, it will be decided which students will be tested.

This is the second time that Pinheiro e Rosa has had to deal with Covid-19 cases. On June 18, a functionary tested positive for the new coronavirus, forcing, at the time, the closing of the school.
