Almodôvar fire is "about to be brought under control"

Fire has two active fronts

O fire, which broke out this Monday, June 17, at Monte das Mestras, in Almodôvar, is "in the process of being controlled".

This is the forecast of António Bota, mayor of Almodôvar, expressed in statements to the Sul Informação.

According to the mayor, "there are good prospects for controlling the fire and we hope to do it in an area with less forest." The fire, which once had three active fronts, now only has two and of "lower intensity", said António Bota.

"The worst has gone. However, the wind can change and you must always be careful,” he added.

However, firefighting has been reinforced and there are already five air resources committed. There are also 78 operational and 22 vehicles in the theater of operations.

The flames only plow in a forested area and so far there have been no houses or human lives threatened.
