Algarve is «increasingly» chosen destination for weddings

This is an area that the Algarve Tourism Association is betting on

The Algarve is «arousing a growing interest among those looking for an international home destination», with the British and Irish being the ones who most choose the region to say “yes”.

According to the Associação Turismo do Algarve (ATA), the body responsible for promoting this destination in foreign markets, Brazil and the USA «are emerging as the markets with the greatest growth potential».

In this context, ATA «has been intensifying its commitment to the “Wedding” product».

In addition to having already been present at the Amour Forum this year, the main European event of the wedding industry, which took place in Vienna last February, the ATA has been promoting visits to the region of wedding planners and other international operators working in this segment, with a view to enabling them to add the Algarve to their portfolio of destinations.

At the same time, ATA has just launched on its website (www.algarvepromotion.pt) a set of specific content on the “Wedding” product, which joins the rest of the tourism offer promoted on this platform.

«Weddings and other celebrations in this area are segments with enormous potential for the Algarve», says João Fernandes, president of ATA and also of the Algarve Tourism Region.

«The region brings together a set of attractions that make it an ideal place to get married. Starting with the climate and the scenery it provides: the possibility of having weddings on the beach or outdoors is increasingly appreciated. To the multiplicity of environments and excellent infrastructures that the destination offers, there is also the existence of all the services and specialized professionals necessary for the organization of the event, which makes it possible to respond to all kinds of challenges», he explains.

“In addition, the region's offer is not limited to providing a place to hold the ceremony. The Algarve is able to offer an entire experience around the event, which can include discovering the local gastronomy, practicing various activities during your stay – from golf, to water sports, cycling tours or cultural visits –, which makes the moment memorable not only for the newlyweds but also for all the guests».

«To all these advantages, the Algarve's ability to offer an interesting quality-price ratio is added, making it a competitive destination compared to competing locations such as some Italian and Spanish regions», refers the Algarve Tourism Association.

«This bet that ATA is making in attracting international weddings is strategic, as it allows us to promote the region and all its products, in a complementary way, to groups (comprised by the couple, families and guests) that, during their stay, they are predisposed to know and live authentic experiences», defends João Fernandes.

On the other hand, this type of event contributes to combating seasonality, given the demand that the destination registers throughout the year, not only for weddings, but also for other celebrations within the same theme, such as the renewal of vows or the commemoration of 25 and 50 years of marriage.
