Terras do Infante and Lagoa advance with a precautionary measure to halt the closing of the CTT

A delegation of mayors from the four municipalities met with the administration of CTT

The Association of Municipalities Terras do Infante, which includes Aljezur, Lagos and Vila do Bispo, and the Câmara de Lagoa will proceed with an injunction to halt the closure of the post offices in Aljezur, Praia da Luz, Sagres and Carvoeiro.

A delegation made up of mayors from the four municipalities met, last Monday, January 14, with the administration of CTT, in Lisbon, and «concluded that the main purpose of the ongoing process is to close these stations or their transformation into posts, concessioned to private, which will lead to the destruction, degradation and disqualification of a public service that will penalize the population, small and medium-sized companies, tourists and the resident foreign community».

For Associação Terras do Infante, this is "an attack on the qualification of the territory, particularly in low densities, which will greatly harm the sustainable social and economic development of these localities."

In the opinion of Associação Terras do Infante and the Municipality of Lagoa, «several breaches of the Universal Postal Service concession contract are also at stake».

“In the intransigent defense of the rights of populations, there is no other solution but this one”, that of proceeding with an injunction in court, concludes Terras do Infante.
