Barão de São João Hiking Festival «couldn't have been better»

In its first year, the festival had 1100 entries in the 72 activities that were promoted

O Walk & Art Fest of Baron of St. John «couldn't have been better». This is guaranteed by the organization of the most recent Algarve hiking festival, which took place in this village in the municipality of Lagos and in the Mata Nacional that borders it between the 1st and 4th of November and was attended by around five hundred participants.

The festival, organized by the association Almargem and the Câmara de Lagos, «was a success and has everything to become a reference event, mainly due to the connection with art and the strategic location where Barão de São João is located, being easy access. It was notorious how people were enchanted by this village with so much to show».

In this first edition, there were 1100 registrations, taking into account that many of the 500 participants "ended up participating in various activities and some for more than one day", according to the organizers of the event.

In all, they were promoted 72 activities, including walks, workshops, concerts, wellness activities and environmental education activities aimed at families, 15 of which sold out.

«Highlight for the artistic installation composed of pieces by 7 local artists that was created on purpose for the event and that turned out to be one of the ex-libris of the festival, which will be shown in Mata de Barão de São João for those who cannot appreciate it. during the event”, according to the Festival organizers.

The «workshops promoted by the partner artists turned out to be one of the main attractions of the program, considering that they are themes where it is not usual to offer associated activities».

“The good atmosphere of the Festival and the good mood of the participants were without a doubt the most relevant aspect. The biggest difficulty, according to the participants, was choosing which activities to carry out taking into account the huge range available», added the organization.

However, the 2019 edition of the festival is already assured and dates are already defined: between the 1st and 3rd of November.

The Barão de São João Walking Festival is part of the event's calendar Algarve Walking Season (AWS) which includes the other two walking festivals in the region (Walking Festival Ameixial and the Walking Festival of Alcoutim).

The AWS is an initiative coordinated by the QRER Cooperative – Cooperative for the Development of Low Density Territories, approved under an application from the Support Line for the Development of Tourism in the Interior, promoted by Turismo de Portugal/Region of Tourism of the Algarve.
