Computer programmers, designers and other professionals linked to the areas of technology and innovation will participate in the programming marathon “Shift Faro”, which will take place between the 23rd and 25th of March at the Penha Campus of the University of Algarve, in Faro.
This will be the first Hackathon – a combination of the English words hack, which means to program fast, and marathon – to take place in the South of the Tagus and will last 48 hours.
«In these events, participants have the opportunity to compete for prizes, meet other professionals in the field, network and participate in collaborative projects with other IT specialists, in a specific programming environment», according to the event's organizers.
The aim is to develop «software, applications or other free and innovative projects, which can be commercialized and placed at the service of the community».
The “Shift” program Faro” also includes several workshops and technical lectures, as well as a round table, scheduled for March 24 at 16:45 pm, where “a debate, which is expected to be prolific, will be launched on the current state of innovation in the Algarve”.
This last initiative will serve to reflect on «the need to consolidate the IT ecosystem in the Algarve through technical events, where innovation and knowledge transfer are encouraged, as well as the implementation, always postponed, of structural projects, such as the Tech Hubs».
The event is organized by Aléxio Rodrigues and by the digital agency Dengun. The curator is in charge of Geek Sessions – Faro (speakers) and ETIC Algarve (in design and communication). Support comes from the City Council of Faro, UAlg, CRIA and Algarve STP (Algarve Science and Technology Park), and several companies in the region, such as Turbine Kreuzberg, Evodeck, Timing, Yourdata, VerArte, BeCorporate and Gymnasium.
