Hallelujah procession covers the streets of São Brás de Alportel with flowery carpets on Easter Sunday

Procession, with men holding Flower Torches, is the highlight of religious festivities

The Festival of the Flowered Torches, around the Alleluia Procession, returns to the streets of the town of São Brás de Alportel in all its splendor next Easter Sunday, in a unique manifestation of faith and tradition, the queen festival of the São Brasense community. Crafts, poetry, sweets, gastronomy and lots of music liven up São Brasense's Easter.

One of the most beautiful aspects of this festival are its traditional carpets of flowers, a kilometer long, that cover the ground where the unique Alleluia Procession passes.

In the afternoon, the Churchyard complements the party with cultural entertainment and traditional flavors. Craft and sweets exhibitions complement the program that attracts thousands of visitors to São Brás de Alportel and brings together the children of the land who return in the season with more meaning in the São Brasense community.

The Florida Torches Festival involves the entire community and different generations, attracting thousands of national and international tourists who choose to experience Easter in a vibrant and unique way in São Brás de Alportel.

After a marathon throughout the week of collecting flowers and preparing them, a task that is a challenge for the entire population, in the early hours of Sunday, late into the night, hundreds of volunteers embark on the arduous task of preparing the flowery carpets, the program starts at 09:30 am, with the streets opening to enjoy the streets.

At the same time, Largo de São Sebastião hosts the Easter Flavors Meeting, while the Churchyard of the Main Church hosts the Crafts Exhibition.

At 10:00 am, in the Main Church the Eucharist of the Resurrection begins, which precedes the long-awaited Alleluia Procession, in honor of the Resurrected Jesus, which motivates several generations of São Brasense men to wear the beautiful and original flower torches while chanting the traditional chorus: “He is risen as he said! Hallelujah! Hallelujah! Hallelujah!".

The balconies are decorated, the bedspreads wave in the wind, and the scents of Spring can be felt throughout the streets.

In the afternoon, from 15:30 pm, the Churchyard of the Main Church hosts the Cultural Afternoon. A lively moment of conviviality with a display of crafts, sweets and snacks, with the presentation of the winners in another edition of the Floral Games and the competition for the most beautiful flower torches and with the performances of the groups: aCordaFole – Orchestra of Accordion and Violin, Folkloric group of Faro and Rebecca.

A unique party at national level organized in partnership by the Associação Cultural Sambrasense, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel and the Parish of São Brás, with the support of CN Scouts 1330, the parish, local associations and the community.

The Florida Torch Festival is, once again, an accessible event. In this edition and similar to what happened in 2019, the Municipality of São Brás de Alportel, in partnership with SAN – Saúde Integrativa and Casa de Repouso e Saúde de São Brás, adapts a space in the enclosure where the Hallelujah Procession passes , with logistical support in monitoring and reserving parking areas to provide better conditions for people with reduced mobility who participate and attend this event. This initiative is part of the “São Brás Accessible for all” project, which will be repeated in 2024.

If weather conditions so require, a plan B is planned for the Cultural Afternoon, which will take place at São Brás Cineteatro Jaime Passos Pinto.

Everyone is invited to participate in the preparation of the Flowery Torch Festival, particularly in the preparation of the Flowery Carpets.
