Port of Portimão participates in the largest cruise fair in Europe

During the first half of 2023, Portuguese ports grew by 82% compared to the same period last year

The Port of Portimão is being promoted by APS – Administração dos Portos de Sines e do Algarve, under the Cruise Portugal brand, at the largest cruise fair in Europe, Seatrade Europe, which ends this Friday, September, in the city German from Hamburg.

In a joint national promotion that is represented by the Ports of Portugal – Leixões, Lisbon, Setúbal, Portimão, Azores and Madeira and Figueira da Foz and various economic agents, namely Ibercruises – Agência de Viagens e Navegação, Navalrocha and Navex, among others other partners – under the theme “Scaling Sustainably”, the participation of the seven ports aims to «project Portugal and its destinations, ports and cities, on the sustainable tourism route of the cruise industry», stresses the APS.

During the first half of 2023, Portuguese ports registered a total of 818 cruise passengers, which corresponded to an increase of 422% compared to the 82 passengers registered in the same period of 449.

«These results mark the upward trajectory of the industry, demonstrating the quality of national port infrastructures and therefore the growing relevance that the destination Portugal has been assuming in the cruise segment», adds APS.

For 2023, port administrations predict that activity will record new records with around 1,6 million passengers and 1 stopovers, which when verified means growth of 035% and 37%, respectively, compared to 2.

By ensuring continuous participation in international events, APS claims to maintain «the focus on the growing development of the cruise sector, seeking to affirm the Port of Portimão as a mandatory stop to enjoy one of the tourist areas of excellence in Europe - the Algarve».
