The Minister of the Environment will visit tomorrow, September 5th, water withdrawals from the Almádena-Odiáxere aquifer (Lagos) which are being monitored and participate in the presentation of reused water projects in Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago.

Accompanied by Hugo Pires, Secretary of State for the Environment, Minister Duarte Cordeiro begins by visiting, at 11 am, the catchment of a large agricultural consumer, in the Almádena-Odiáxere aquifer area, and then goes to visit the monitoring point of the piezometric network that the Portuguese Environment Agency (APA – ARH Algarve) installed it in the area, as part of a pilot project.

In the afternoon, at 15:20 pm, the Minister of Environment and Climate Action participates in the presentation of reused water projects, coming from the Vilamoura and Quinta do Lago Wastewater Treatment Plants.

The session will take place at the Vilamoura WWTP itself, which will be visited by Duarte Cordeiro and Hugo Pires.

The project to reuse treated water at this Station will be launched by the end of this year, to be operational by the end of 2024 or beginning of 2025.

In this case, the reused water will irrigate golf courses, Vilamoura gardens and the sports park.

In the Algarve, there are already cases of reuse of treated wastewater, namely on the Castro Marim golf courses, as you can read here.
