Olhanenses can now ask for reimbursement of medicines

ABEM Programme: Rede Solidária do Medicamentos has already begun to be implemented in this Algarve Municipality

Residents of Olhão can now request reimbursement for medicines due to the implementation of the ABEM Programme: Rede Solidária do Medicamentos.

This is a partnership between the Municipality and the Dignitude Association, which will allow people from Olhão in a situation of greater economic vulnerability to benefit from a co-payment in the purchase of medicines.

In a note, the municipality of Olhão explains that the ABEM program aims to "guarantee access to outpatient medicine by any citizen who is in a situation of economic need that makes it impossible to purchase medicines prescribed on a medical prescription and reimbursed by the SNS ».

Beneficiaries are referred by the Municipality and, after referral, they are assigned a card, which can be used in any pharmacy in the country identified with the sticker “Abem Pharmacy”.

Requests must be made by submitting an application to the Municipality's Social Assistance and Monitoring Service, or to the Single Counter.

Interested parties may also contact the Social Cohesion Division, through the numbers 289 700 100 and 967 103 877, or the email [email protected].

At the signing ceremony of the protocol that made it possible to implement this measure, the mayor of the municipality António Miguel Pina underlined the importance of this project, co-financed by Dignitude and the Municipality, as a guarantee that no one stops taking their medication for financial reasons.

«We don't want anyone from Olhão to have to face the choice between eating and having their therapy. We have to go where we need to go so that our society becomes more and more fair for everyone», said the mayor.
