«Mister President, now you have to eat too», said Minister Mariana Vieira da Silva to Luís Encarnação, mayor of Lagoa, when they both stopped in front of the stand of Lagoa confectioner Cremilde Paias, who offered them a Florado de Lagoa, an example of the confectionery tradition of this land, recently rediscovered and reinvented.
This Friday, the 18th, at the end of the afternoon, the Minister of the Presidency, who is the acting Prime Minister due to António Costa's holidays (also in Lagos), presided over the opening of the 42nd edition of FATACIL – Agricultural Fair, Tourism, Handicrafts, Commerce and Industry of Lagoa.
Mariana Vieira da Silva, always with a smile on her face, also tasted a cocktail from the Algarve, honey from Monchique, preserves from Conserveira do Arade, and took a long tour of the FATACIL premises, always accompanied by the mayors (Luís Encarnação), the Municipal Assembly ( José Águas da Cruz), CCDR Algarve (José Apolinário), by the regional director of Agriculture Pedro Valadas Monteiro, among other individuals, namely mayors of Lagoa and other municipalities, regional directors of various services, deputies.
«Who is that?», asked some people when they crossed paths with the entourage, accompanied by journalists. "It's the minister speaking on television," replied one visitor.
In her speech, Mariana Vieira da Silva had pointed out that FATACIL is, basically, a «showcase of what is one of the priorities for the Algarve: the diversification of its economy», as, incidentally, «has been well demonstrated in recent years» .
The minister also referred to the need to «invest in structural solutions» to solve the problems of the Algarve region (and the country), also stating that «the value of PRR payments is growing rapidly throughout this summer». In the Algarve, she said, important investments paid for by the PRR are underway, namely in the area of water supply and the creation of «student accommodation».
As for this year's edition of FATACIL, after yesterday the main stage of the fair was occupied by Ritchie Campbel, today the music will be in charge of a highly successful Algarvean: Diogo Piçarra. A flood is therefore expected.
On Sunday, it will be the turn of Badoxa (20), also from the Algarve, followed by Toy (21), Quim Barreiros (22), Chico da Tina (23), Miguel Araújo (24), Os Quatro e Meia (25), Bárbara Tinoco (26) and Mariza with Orquestra do Algarve (27)
There is still all the programming of the equestrian sector, one of the "anchors" of FATACIL, by bringing high quality names to national and international level. By the way, this sector's programming starts this Saturday, the 19th (see program below).
Also noteworthy is the entertainment on the secondary stage, always with local artists, through the streets of the fair or even in certain sectors, such as aMar a Terra.
The fair runs until the 27th, with a schedule from 18:00 to 01:00.
Children up to 12 years old (inclusive) do not pay entrance, upon presentation of the Citizen Card. Tickets can be purchased, for more convenience, through BOL online ticket office, clicking here, at CTT, at Fnac, at Worten, at Centro Cultural Convento de S. José, at Balcão Único Municipal and at the fair venue, at the ticket offices that are open during the days of the fair.
The daily ticket costs 5 euros, the family daily ticket 16 euros and the 10-day pass 30 euros.
