More than 14 thousand tons of oranges from the Algarve, with Protected Geographical Indication certification, will be on sale in Continente stores across the country, coming from orchards «where safe and sustainable agricultural practices are guaranteed from a social and environmental point of view» .

According to this commercial chain, the oranges were acquired «through the Continente Producers Club (CPC), whose premise is to support national producers and guarantee certified Portuguese products, which are increasingly sustainable».

The Continente Producers Club has a total of 340 producers and invests «more than 570 million euros in purchases from national production, which are reflected in more than 240 thousand tons of products».

«Producers from the Continente Producers Club make efficient use of water and promote biodiversity in their fields, respecting the flora and animal life present, these being aspects that CPC producers focus on daily. Also the practice of sustainable agriculture, opting, for example, for natural methods of combating pests, such as the use of auxiliary insects to combat harmful species, are an example of this commitment», assures Continnete.

«The purchase of more than 14 thousand tons of oranges from the Algarve, through the Continente Producers Club, reflects our ongoing commitment to supporting national producers, with our orange producers certified for their quality and good agricultural and sustainable practices» , according to Ondina Afonso, president of the Continente Producers Club.
