“Tanto Mar”, “Mochila”, Promenade Concerts and much more to see in Loulé

See the main events that the Loulé cultural space will host

Theatre, with the festivals “Tanto Mar” and “Mochila”, dance, music, with Promenade concerts by Orquestra do Algarve. These are just some of Cineteatro Louletano's proposals for May.

The month kicks off with dancing at Cineteatro Louletano (CTL) through “O que é um problema?”, a premiere by Beatriz Valentim. A co-production by CTL with dancers Beatriz Valentim and Ana Caetano, in a performance that seeks, above all, to understand the thinking of young people. The idea is to give them the floor and stimulate their critical and decision-making sense. There are sessions for schools on the 4th of May at 10:30 am and 14:30 pm, and on the 5th at 10:30 am.

The session for the general public is also on the 5th, but at 21:00.

Soon after, on May 7th, “A Mochila” arrives, a Theater Festival for Children and Youth organized by LAMA Teatro that will also be in Faro and in Lagos.

In Loulé, “A Mochila” will stage three shows: “B Fachada – Concert for Children” on the 7th, at 11:00 am, at Cineteatro Louletano, “Spotlight”, by LAMA Teatro on the 9th (11:00 am for schools, 19:00 pm general public) , in the Auditorium of the Convento do Espírito Santo and “Full House”, by Tram 28, on the 14th at 11 am, at the Cerca do Convento do Espírito Santo.

On the 9th, at 21 pm, in the Auditorium of Solar da Música Nova, another session of the French Film of the Month, this time with a drama, “Rouge”, by Farid Bentoumi (00).

RHI – Revolution, Hope, Imagination, organized by the Arte Institute, returns between May 10th and 13th. The event covers the country from North to South and aims to bring artists residing in the Algarve closer to international programmers, creating opportunities to rethink Art and Culture through debates, workshops and networking.

In 2023, RHI Loulé will focus on Museums. Among other personalities, the curators of two of the largest museums in the world, the Museu de Arte do Rio (Rio de Janeiro) and the Museu da Imagem e Som (MIS) of São Paulo (11 de Maio, Islamic Baths, Loulé) are present. .

RHI also goes to Loulé Secondary School, with two workshops, one on contemporary dance and the other on vocal expression. On the 13th, at 18 pm, there will be a showcase with free admission, featuring the bands Low Profile Trio, by Marco Martins and Electric Gold.

On the 11th, at 21:00, there will be “Conversas à Quinta”, at the Bar do Cineteatro. This time, with Diogo Freitas, author and director of the play “O Fim”, which takes the stage the following day. Diogo is artistic director and co-founder of the company Momento-Artistas Independentes and proposes, with regard to the piece he brings to Loulé, talking about death and, if possible, laughing about death.

On the 12th, also at 21 pm, Companhia Momento – Independent Artists presents “The End”, a play about beauty, the ephemeral, the meaning of life and the end of life itself. This play, a co-production of Cineteatro Louletano, has a session for schools on the 00th. The one on the 11th offers the Audiodescription service, for the blind and people with low vision.

On the 13th, there will be an unprecedented show in the Algarve. It is called “A Força (O Poder) da Palavra – Um Canto a José Mário Branco”, and it is brought by a collective of reference in a cappella singing, Canto Nono. To see and hear at 21 pm at the Cineteatro Louletano.

On the 17th, at 21:00, there will be a new co-production, this time in the theater through a play created by actress and director Beatriz Batarda. It is called “C., Celeste and the First Virtue”. At the end, there will be a conversation with the audience.

On the 20th of May, another session of the “Concertos Crescendo”, by the Conservatório de Música de Loulé – Francisco Rosado, to be seen and heard at 17 pm in the Auditorium of Solar da Música Nova.

«On the same day, Saturday, we returned to dancing, in a co-production with corpodehoje. Ana Borges brings us “unlocked language”, a piece created after a residency in Loulé in which the dancer and choreographer interacted with members of the community, namely people with a strong connection to orality and customs that were passed down from generation to generation. “unlocked language” is based on tongue twisters to try to recover a tradition that is practically extinct and that was passed down many times from parents to children and from grandparents to grandchildren, with stories, fables, proverbs, litanies, prayers and of course, lock -tongues. The premiere is at 21:00», says the Câmara de Loulé.

On the 21st, Sunday, at 11 am, the Promenade Concerts will return, by Orquestra do Algarve.

«This time, we are going to listen to the music of the Kings and Queens, that is, works that the Court commissioned to entertain the sovereigns, in particular the English Kings – or it was not that we were at the time of a new Coronation, of the British King Charles III. Among the various themes, Beethoven's "God Save the King" will be heard», according to the municipality.

On the 23rd of May, another co-production, this time within the scope of the Loulé Theater Support Scholarship and included in Scenarios – Loulé Theater Exhibition. It's called “Pedrito, the Strawberry Tree and the Rainbow” and is produced by the Figo Lampo Association. A play for children and young people whose main performers are a holm oak tree, a carob tree and Pedrito, a young arbutus tree. The sessions are aimed at schools, one at 10:30 am and another at 14:30 pm. The 10:30 session will have Portuguese Sign Language.

From the 24th to the 27th, another edition of the “Tanto Mar Festival”, promoted by the Folha de Medronho association. Tanto Mar returns for its fourth edition with four days of theater and performance, with foreign companies from Portuguese-speaking African countries, namely Cape Verde, Mozambique and Brazil. This time, there is also a group of Portuguese nationality.

On the 28th of May, another return: the “Concerts for Babies”, by the company Musicalmente. This time, there is “Duendes em Risco, Salpicar de Bebé”, with stories involving two neighbors who like to contemplate the clouds. One dances with them, the other keeps them in drawings. It is in the Auditorium of Solar da Música Nova, at 10:00 am and 11:30 am.

On the same day, but in the afternoon, Musicalmente promotes an “Immersive Sound-Musical Experience”, aimed especially at caregivers, whether they are people with specific needs, people with disabilities, patients, children, etc. A way to learn to relax and face everyday life with different eyes, and other skills.

«Towards the end of the month, we will see “How to postpone the end of the world”, a premiere and co-production also included in Scenarios – Teatro de Loulé, supported by the Theater Support Grant. The play is created by the Children's Theater Group of Nave do Barão and is part of the homonymous book by the Brazilian writer and environmentalist Ailton Krenak, an Indian native of Minas Gerais, a region inhabited by the Krenak tribe. Ailton is one of the most recognized Brazilian activists today, in defense of the rights of indigenous peoples. The show takes the stage on Sunday at 17 pm at Cineteatro Louletano».

On the 29th, at Palácio Gama Lobo, there is space for a Meeting on Cultural Mediation. What is it? What is it for? How can it serve to deepen democracy? These and other issues will be on the table at this meeting that brings together professionals from various national cultural structures.

The month closes with “Conversas Emergentes”, a joint initiative of the National Arts Plan (PNA), CTL and Companhia Caótica, in the form of regional conversations / laboratories, within the scope of the Biennial “Culture and Education”, promoted by PNA. The initiative covers the country and also includes Loulé, to take the pulse of the creation and programming of performing arts for children and youth in Portugal.

The initiative has limited capacity and is subject to registration via email [email protected]. It is aimed at programmers, mediators, artists, teachers, as well as all those who speak, listen and intervene in the performing arts sector for young audiences.
