The Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve will mark, next Tuesday, May 9, Europe Day with the activity “European Heritage Mark – Values Map”, at the Fortress of Sagres.

The initiative takes place from 10:30 am to 12:00 pm and from 14:30 pm to 16:00 pm. This is a free entry initiative open to the general public.

Europe Day marks the anniversary of the historic Schuman Declaration, signed on 9 May 1950, which sets out the vision of Robert Schuman, one of the founding fathers of the European Community, through a collaborative plan to ensure stability and lasting peace in Post-War Europe.

This plan led to the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community, which gave rise to the current European Union.

The Sagres Promontory was distinguished with the European Heritage Mark (MEP) in 2015.

Currently, the European Heritage Mark project includes a total of 60 heritage properties that represent symbolic milestones in the common and shared trajectory in the formation of Europe and the European Union.

The proposed activity "European Heritage Mark - Values Map" aims to discover the humanist values that the MPE project promotes, and what connects the Sagres Promontory to so many other heritage sites spread across Europe.
