Algarve joins the national platform to facilitate the purchase of tickets in public transport

AMAL will sign an agreement with the Mobility and Transport Institute

AMAL will join the National Ticketing Platform “1Bilhete.pt”, with the aim of «taking advantage of the greater integration of ticketing in the country and implementing the intermodal system in the Algarve in a less costly, simpler and faster way», according to Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve.

The decision was taken at the ordinary meeting of the Intermunicipal Council, held on Monday, May 8, which now follows the signing of the Adhesion Agreement to be signed between the Mobility and Transport Institute (IMT) and AMAL, as the Algarve Regional Transport Authority.

The project, led by the IMT, «will have national coverage and will consist of the creation of an intermodal ticketing technological platform that will allow interoperability between existing systems, as well as the introduction of new ticketing systems».

“1bilhete.pt” will make it possible, «for example, to acquire and validate transport tickets from any adherent ticketing system, with any public transport card or mobile application, not requiring the purchase of a new card or the installation of another application on your cell phone», making life easier for passengers.

«It will also make it possible to create public transport travel tickets with nationwide coverage and use bank cards, in physical or virtual support, to acquire or validate transport tickets, opening up the possibility of attributing benefits arising from the use of a unified account. It will thus guarantee the universality of the use of supports and the integration of mobility services in the country», adds AMAL.

The platform will be implemented in a phased manner, according to the development of the different solutions: classic ticketing by the end of this year, mobile ticketing applications by the end of the second quarter of 2024 and cards and bank payment applications by the end of next year .

The technological development of the platform is the responsibility of Transportes Metropolitanos de Lisboa (TML) and Transportes Intermodalis do Porto (TIP), which have the same technological and security base and which, collaboratively, share resources and technical knowledge to develop the project, under the supervision of the Mobility and Transport Institute.

The global project foresees an investment of 2,7 million euros, financed by the Fund for the Public Transport Service, and entities with responsibilities in the area of transport, such as AMAL, benefit from access to investments for the implementation of the system.

The Intermunicipal Community of the Algarve has been working towards the creation of a single pass in the region «and has already begun the development of the system for the intermodal tariff integration of passenger transport».

«At this time, the zoning, tariffs, revenue sharing and basic regulations have already been studied, so joining the “1Bilhete.pt” project will represent a decisive step towards creating the minimum conditions to implement, in a first phase , a multimodal pass for the whole Algarve», concludes AMAL.
