April 25th in Faro there will be a formal session and shows at Teatro das Figuras and Palco da Doca

Celebrations start today

Faro will celebrate the 49th anniversary of the 25th of April with the traditional raising of flags in Praça da Liberdade, the formal session at Teatro Lethes and the organization of musical shows at Teatro das Figuras and Palco da Doca.

The celebrations begin today, April 24, with the original and unprecedented concert “Duma Assentada”, by South Music, which takes place on the Doca stage, at 22:00. As part of this project, created for this moment, five voices from the region (Ana Tereza, Edna Oliveira, Fernando Leal, Inês Miranda and Maria João Jones) will interpret some of the most emblematic themes associated with the Carnation Revolution.

Supporting the performers will be João Nunes (guitar), Luís Caracinha (guitar), Gabriel Costa (piano), Fernando Júdice (bass), Tiago Rêgo (percussions), Ruben Salamanca (drums) – all musicians who met the challenge of the South Music, promoted by the Municipality -, as well as guests Fábio Reis (trombone) and Rúben Rodeia (saxophone).

Among the lineup will be themes from the great names of intervention music, such as José Mário Branco, Adriano Correia de Oliveira, Paulo de Carvalho, Fernando Tordo, Fausto Bordalo Dias, Sérgio Godinho, Simone de Oliveira or José Afonso.

Tomorrow, the 25th, the celebrations begin at 10:00 am, in Praça da Liberdade, with a performance by the Philharmonic Band of Faro, followed by the hoisting of the flags and a performance by the «dance class of the Conservatório Regional do Algarve and a small musical note by the baritone Rui Baeta.

At 11:00 am there will be a formal session at Teatro Lethes, which will feature various musical moments by four young accordionists, students of Professor Nelson Conceição: Inês Faria, Pedro Ramos, Rodrigo Veloso and Tiago Conceição.

The session will also feature a moment of poetry by actor Luís Vicente and a moment of dance by Rita Salazar.

Another highlight is the Concert for April, which takes place at 18 pm at the Teatro das Figuras. This concert by Orquestra do Algarve, with the contribution of the Community Choir of Orquestra do Algarve and the presence of the singer Viviane, will perform music by unavoidable authors such as Carlos Paredes, Fernando Lopes-Graça, José Mário Branco and Zeca Afonso, with orchestration by the composer Francisco Tavares.
