The play “As Mulheres do Alto”, by the community of the Associação Casa-Museu José Pinto Contreiras (ACMJPC), will be presented at Cineteatro São Brás Jaime Pinto, in São Brás de Alportel, on March 12, at 15 pm.
In October 2022, ACMJPC, in partnership with the Parish Council of Santa Bárbara de Nexe and the Coletivo Janela Aberta Teatro (JAT), started a community theater experience in Gorjões.
According to the Associação Recreativa Cultural e Desportiva das Laceiras, the initiative obtained initial funding from the Regional Directorate of Culture of the Algarve, with the project «The Construction of Lugar do Alto in the Parish of Santa Bárbara de Nexe».
The community work, which brought together about nine female members of the community, started from personal and social memories and texts written by local historians, and was built with the participants' own experiences, in a process of cultural training and qualification.
The result was presented on the 28th and 29th of January last, in Gorjões, with the title «As Mulheres do Alto».
The play, lasting 45 minutes, is staged by Ilda Nogueira and Graça Madeira and sound design/lighting by Joana Cabrita Martins (JAT) and performed by Ilda Nogueira, Graça Madeira, Natividade Martins, Dina Guerreiro, Délia Contreiras, Idalécia Gonçalves, Laurentina Cristina, Bernardina Silva, Maria da Glória Guerreiro, Lénia Guerreiro and the young Raquel Guerreiro.
