Sporting events bring together more than 3600 athletes in Portimão, until May

This Saturday, three sporting events will start in Portimão with a strong component of sports tourism

An informal sports competition for university students and football and beach volleyball tournaments will bring around 3600 participants to Portimão, starting on Saturday, April 1st.

From the 1st to the 6th of April, Praia da Rocha hosts the “Gata na Praia”, by the Academic Association of the University of Minho, which will take place in Praia da Rocha.

“Gata na Praia”, which this year will also have the participation of students from the University of Aveiro, will gather around 300 participants and «aims to promote sport and academic spirit, through the constitution of mixed teams of eight elements that, during six days, will harmonize sporting competitiveness with fun and leisure», according to the Portimão City Council.

During the day, participants, who will be university students aged between 18 and 24, will practice informal sports and inter-team competitions on the sands of Praia da Rocha, while the nights will be reserved for themed parties.

The initiative, already 18 years old, has the support of the Municipality of Portimão, the Portuguese Institute of Sports and Youth and the University of Minho.

 

 

At the same time, another edition of the “Bonicup Algarve” will take place on Saturday and Sunday, a youth soccer tournament that will take place at Campo Major David Neto and at the Sports Complex of Mexilhoeira Grande, bringing together 700 children and young people from various regions of Spain. , between 5 and 16 years old, accompanied by their family members.

Inserted between the pre-Benjamin and cadet categories, the young footballers represent teams from Seville, Malaga, Almería and Madrid, as well as other Spanish regions, and will have the opportunity to reconcile football with a unique tourist experience.

The competition, which will also take place on the pitches of Estômbar and Parchal, is organized by the company Bonicup, with the support of Portimonense Sporting Clube and Portimão City Council in terms of the provision of facilities.

The other event that starts on Saturday, but which, in this case, lasts until the 7th of May, is beach volleyball, in the discipline of “Deep Dish Me”, a sporting event that will bring together around 2500 practitioners from all over the world in Praia da Rocha. world.

«Like what happens since 2014, 40 beach volleyball fields were set up in Praia da Rocha, where several tournaments and training actions will take place, in addition to the socialization aspect, with a lot of fun in the mix», according to the municipality.

This event, which has the support of the Municipality of Portimão, «is based on the concept of peaceful holidays, in which the only concern of the participants is the practice of beach volleyball and the respective competition, enjoying the best of sport and holidays , without any kind of concern”.
