The first initiative with António Costa was symbolic and around a topic on the agenda: housing. The entire Government is in the Algarve this Wednesday and Thursday, March 1st and 2nd, with the Prime Minister guaranteeing that these will be “two days to work with and for the people of the Algarve”.

The first agenda of the head of government took place around 12h00 this Wednesday, with the laying of the first stone of the construction of 49 houses, in Montenegro, municipality of Faro.

These fires are intended for the rehousing of fishing families who currently live in Praia de Faro.

The start of the work, which is 100% financed by the Recovery and Resilience Plan (PRR) under the 1st Law programme, was sponsored by António Costa, who took the opportunity to talk about the “Government + Next” initiative, which brings the entire executive region today and tomorrow and that already deserved criticism from the PSD/Algarve.

«It will be two days of government work, in close proximity. All members of the Government will be in all municipalities, working with the mayors to solve the problems of the Algarve», said the Prime Minister, in his speech, during which about a dozen teachers were heard, in protest.

For António Costa, it was a «particular pleasure» to begin this tour, «witnessing an act of consignment for the construction of 49 houses».

«This is an initiative that directly concerns something that is fundamental: the Algarve people who live 365 days a year in the Algarve», he added.

Is that, according to the Prime Minister, the Portuguese «not always» are aware that there are people who «live, work and study in the Algarve».

«Usually, we Portuguese people have the rare privilege of spending a few days in the Algarve during the holidays and we don’t always realize that there are Portuguese people who, for 365 days, live, work and study in the Algarve and who need housing, care health, mobility and who have the right to security», he reinforced.

For António Costa, this housing project is also «an excellent example of the partnership between the State and the municipalities».

«Housing is a national problem and a fundamental right. We only have a solution if we work side by side, hand in hand with the municipalities, so that, in a decentralized way, we can respond to the needs that exist in each of the parts of our territory», considered the prime minister.

Rogério Bacalhau, president of the Chamber of Faro, also spoke about housing being «one of the greatest difficulties for families». Therefore, the start of the construction of these 49 dwellings represents «a very happy day» for the municipality.

The project was already about 10 years old and is also part of the Local Housing Strategy.

From Montenegro, Costa will head to Olhão, where, at 15 pm, he will participate in the presentation of the metrobus project. At 00 pm, the agenda will be in Vila Real de Santo António with the inauguration of the new PSP police station.
