Government visit to the Algarve is «a lot of vine and little grape», accuses the PSD

Social democrats accuse the Government of ignoring issues "essential for the population"

«A lot of vine and little grape». This is how the PSD/Algarve classifies the “Government + Next” initiative, which takes place today and tomorrow, March 1st and 2nd, and which brings the Government “in weight”, including the Prime Minister, to the region, to participate in dozens of initiatives.

«with a lot of soft politics and public relations, but little or no practical results, the Government is in the district of Faro, essentially to make a full media journey with 66 stops, between meetings, presentations and announcements, designed only to mitigate the damage caused by itself to its reputational image», accuse the social democrats, in a note signed by Cristóvão Norte, president of the party in the region.

The PSD/Algarve accuses the Government of skipping "shamelessly on matters that are essential for the population and that lack the answers that the Government should and can but does not want or does not know how to give", giving as an example "the situation of health care of the region, an authentic scourge for those who live here and a national shame, and that this visit does not see any progress».

«Take the case of the flashing maternity hospital in Portimão, which is open half the time and closed the other half and will continue to do so, to the misfortune of pregnant women and babies in the region; see the case of the new central hospital which collects advertisements but about which nothing is known, nor will it be known any time soon; or primary health care that has a shortage of third-world doctors, from Sotavento to Barlavento, forcing people to go to the health center at dawn to guarantee care», lists the PSD.

The social democrats also highlight the «education situation, with around 5 thousand Algarve students remaining without a teacher in at least one subject, without this deserving of a measure by the Government».

«This lack of human resources is, moreover, the dominant note in all State services here in the district, where there is a shortage of doctors, teachers, nurses, judges and other justice professionals. The services give an inefficient and increasingly prolonged response in time», he adds.

Other topics addressed by the main opposition party are the price of tolls on the A22, the requalification works on the EN125 between Olhão and Vila Real de Santo António and the «errors and omissions» accumulated by the Government in the area of mobility, «such as the electrification of the rail line without correcting the route or the rail connection to the Airport of Faro which will remain for the Kalends”.

«Instead of media demonstrations, the Government would be better off solving these problems and unblocking others such as the Portimão Cruise Port, about which almost nobody talks anymore, except for the PSD, nor the local mayor, who prefers to associate with this parade of stars doling out smiles and smooth talk. Perhaps you could take advantage of the occasion to comment on the plan approved by your government, which will send around 40 beds of local accommodation to the parallel market, or the complete lack of solution to the generalized drought problem, which is getting worse every day», concludes the PSD of the Algarve.
