Municipality pays 50% of the daycare fee to 260 families from Olhão

This is a municipal investment of around 300 thousand euros per year

The Municipality of Olhão will contribute 50% of the monthly fee for the nursery to around 260 families with children attending these institutions.

The measure, which was formalized on the morning of this Wednesday, February 1, between the City Council and the sector's institutions, a total of eleven throughout the municipality, will represent a municipal investment of around 300 thousand euros per year, as stated by the mayor.

António Miguel Pina estimates that each of the almost 260 families covered will no longer spend, on average, 1300 euros annually to support their children's day care.

“Education, like health, must be universal and free. This executive had promised during the electoral campaign to reinforce support in this area, having complied with the signing of this protocol. This effort we are making is effective and will restore the income of families in Olhão, especially in this crisis phase like the one we are experiencing», concluded the mayor.

The support will last for two years, after which all children will be covered by the free service provided by the Government.

The municipal measure will reach almost half of the families in Olhão with children attending these establishments, since those covered by the 1st and 2nd income brackets are excluded, whose attendance is already fully financed by the Social Security.
